The outputs of my body and computer related machines are all initial inputs from the mind. They are identity in lived, visual form. “Tracings” chronologies a design created and first drawn by machine and then retraced by hand in 275 sequential iterations. Each individual trace is on 8.5 x 8.5 inches of copy paper utilizing black oil pastels. The subsequent breakdown of the pattern examines the miscommunication known to occur within the body. By manipulating self-identified rules for my processes to mimic algorithms found in technological binaries, the output is a mixture of hand-made and machine-made. These acts begin the conversation between the outputs of machine and my body by contrasting the abilities and limitations of each. Because communication within computers are set to a binary logic, my own biases lead to the assumption that it alone can reconcile the ideas infused in my work.
